VETERANS DAY

10th May 2025

K&W GP Federation in conjunction with Brent Council and the Royal British Legion

On the 10th of May, K&W GP Federation in collaboration with the Brent Council and the Wembley & Sudbury Branch of the Royal British Legion hosted our beloved Brent veterans and elderly residents to a glorious tea party at the Chalkhill Community Centre. It was wonderful to see so many attendees dressed up and ready to party! The theme was vintage and our songbirds for the afternoon Rhiannon and Naomi from Test of Time Entertainment did not disappoint. We were regaled with songs from era, led through a sing-along of the White Cliffs of Dover and even taught the Lambeth walk. We also had a special appearance by Mrs Tracey King and her protégé.

The event was graced by many notable guests such as the MPs of Brent East (Dawn Butler), Brent West (Barry Gardiner) and several Brent Councilors including the leader of the council (Cllr Muhammed Butt) and the Mayor of Brent (Cllr Tariq Dar) in addition to nonagenarian veterans and members of the Royal Gurkha Rifles-both young and old.

In addition to connecting attendees with relevant local organisations such as AgeUK (Hillingdon, Harrow & Brent) and Ashford Place, we were able to raise money for both the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes. We are very grateful to Bhavna’s Vegetarian takeaway, Mohammad Tahir of ASDA Wembley & Jill of ASDA Colindale who ensured a successful event through their contribution of much appreciated refreshments. We would further like to thank the Neasden Temple (BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir) who helped secure delicious food donations from Jordan Galpin of Bakkavor Pizza, Andrea Blackman of Pladis Global, Rikin Lakhani of Europe Snacks, Kirran Tah of Cake House Bakery and Indar Kansara. We are very grateful to all attendees and volunteers for what was truly a community celebration and are glad to know that it was not only well patronised but thoroughly enjoyed and we have it on good authority-from attendees of the first VE day celebration-that our event was a close second in their books.
